Shenshan-Made Fuses Make Their Way into Space

Recently, the Yunjian MetaX satellite (Jitianxing A-04) was successfully launched into orbit aboard a Kinetica-1 (Lijian-1) Y15 carrier rocket from the Dongfeng commercial space innovation pilot zone. Notably, the fuses used in this satellite mission were supplied by VICFUSE, a company based in Shenzhen’s Shenshan Special Cooperation Zone.

VICFUSE’s fuses have not only supported space missions but are also widely used in electronics, telecommunications, rail transit, new energy, and other industrial sectors. The company’s technology ranks among the best in China and is internationally competitive.

Innovative breakthrough: Shenshan-made fuses support satellite mission

The Yunjian MetaX satellite – an intelligent computing satellite featuring a meter-scale primary structure designed with AI and manufactured via 3D printing – has successfully entered orbit, marking a major breakthrough in the application of “AI + additive manufacturing” in China’s aerospace sector.

More importantly, space-based computing has become a key frontier in the global technology race. The satellite is equipped with a MetaX GPU-based intelligent computing payload, an onboard router, and a laser communication terminal. It will perform in-orbit reliability verification for domestically produced GPUs – a critical step in bringing China’s homegrown intelligent computing industry into space.

“We were thrilled when the satellite was successfully launched!” said Wang Xingguo, Assistant Director of R&D at VICFUSE. He noted that this marks the first time a customer has confirmed the use of the company’s fuses in a satellite mission. The entire process went smoothly, and the customer reached out right away to express their thanks, saying: “We used your fuses.”

At VICFUSE’s production facility, technical support engineer Shuai Feng showed reporters the miniature surface-mount fuses used in the satellite mission – each smaller than a grain of rice. “Components used in space must meet stringent requirements for precision, stability, and environmental durability,” he explained. “As the core of a spacecraft’s circuit protection system, fuses act as guardians of circuit safety, playing a critical role by providing overload and short-circuit protection for a satellite’s onboard circuits.”

Leveraging its technological strengths, VICFUSE developed surface-mount fuses tailored to customer needs, achieving three key competitive advantages: a comprehensive range of miniature fuses with high fusing precision; industry-leading high-power capability – with its 0402-size model rated up to 25A, far exceeding the maximum rating of 5A offered by comparable overseas products; and a ceramic substrate that delivers an exceptionally wide operating temperature range, making it suitable for demanding aerospace applications.

“This satellite mission has verified the aerospace-grade reliability of our products, marking their successful entry into aerospace applications,” Shuai Feng noted. “It not only enhances our brand influence and opens up the high-end aerospace market, but also supports the replacement of imported products with China’s domestically produced alternatives, further consolidating VICFUSE’s position in specialty protection devices.”

Highlight: VICFUSE shines at Shenzhen’s exhibition of new quality productive forces achievements

Recently, VICFUSE represented the Shenshan Special Cooperation Zone at Shenzhen’s “Illuminate Industries” Exhibition of New Quality Productive Forces Achievements, drawing considerable attention.

“Our flagship offering is the Class J series of industrial power supply and drive protection products – the first of their kind in China to obtain UL certification. They have been recognized as a national model technology for energy conservation and carbon reduction, and have passed municipal-level appraisal of scientific and technological achievements. Today, they have been deeply embedded in the supply chains of many customers worldwide, exported in bulk to North America and other markets across the globe, and have become a mainstream solution in the global industrial power protection field,” said Fu Wenzhu, Marketing Manager at VICFUSE.

At the exhibition, VICFUSE showcased its cutting-edge new technologies for energy conservation and carbon reduction, while engaging with upstream and downstream industry partners to broaden cooperation channels globally – a highly rewarding experience for the company.

Steady growth: VICFUSE posts 25% growth in H1 output value, accelerating high-quality development

In 2017, attracted by the unique cost advantages and a business environment aligned with Shenzhen in service quality and efficiency, VICFUSE chose to establish its operations in Shenshan. Over the past nine years, the company has expanded its workforce nearly threefold to over 300 employees. In the first half of this year, it generated an output value of nearly RMB30 million, up approximately 25% year-on-year.

“Our best-selling product in overseas markets is the surface-mount fuse used in power supplies for AI servers,” said Fu. “We are already fully booked for the entire year. We are now upgrading our automation equipment and stepping up R&D investment in fuse products for AI robotics, as we expand the presence of our high-end fuse products in global markets.”

As one of 30 companies in Shenshan’s new energy vehicle industry chain, VICFUSE has not only established business cooperation with BYD on high-end battery protection products but also successfully developed domestic alternatives to imported fuses for aerospace and automotive applications. With the overall performance of its products benchmarked against leading international brands, its market reputation and industry recognition have continued to grow both in China and overseas.
