The National Horseback Archery Championship and Equestrian Carnival was held in the Shenzhen Shenshan Special Cooperation Zone from December 19 to 22. Sponsored by the China Ethnic Sports Association (CESA), the event received support and participation from the Horse Culture and Sports Committee of CESA, the Bureau of Public Utilities and Houmen Sub-district in Shenzhen Shenshan Special Cooperation Zone, and the Shenzhen Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism and Sports.
As one of the top horse archery events in China, the championship not only marked a milestone in the development of horse archery in the country, but also undertook the mission of carrying forward fine traditional Chinese culture such as the six arts that a gentleman should be expert in, namely, courtesy, music, archery, riding, writing and math. A total of 14 delegations, comprising 68 outstanding athletes from all across the country, participated in the event to demonstrate their archery skills and speed.
The championship, which included an adult group and a young group, featured five horseback archery items, including Chinese horseback archery in three postures, shooting five consecutive arrows, and Chinese strength archery. These items not only tested the skills of athletes, but also embodied the integration of traditional culture and modern sportsmanship. Over the four-day competition, three individual champions and two team titles were awarded. Athletes fiercely competed, delivering a spectacular sporting event for the audiences.
A grand opening ceremony and evening gala were held during the event, offering a memorable audiovisual experience to audiences. Yu Shi, deputy director of the CESA Horseback Archery Center and a member of Guangdong Provincial Horseback Archery Team, was also present, adding extra allure to the event.
