Despite being built nearly a thousand years ago, the Yangti Ridge is well-preserved. This traffic route of vital importance in ancient eastern Guangdong, which stretches about 4.8 kilometers, starts at Shengfo Nunnery, extends eastwards, passes through the ancient paths in Yangti Ridge and Junzi Ridge, and terminates at Simaling Reservoir. The ancient courier route is named after Yangti Ridge, a branch of the Lianhua Mountain Range. Because of its high-altitude peaks, steep roads, and resemblance to a sheep’s hoof, it is called Yangti Ridge, which is also reputed as “the most impregnable pass in eastern Guangdon”.
